PTO Meeting September 13th 2011

Treasury report

  • Candy for the teachers ($24), ($75) for Mums in front of school, ($83) for web
    hosting.
  • Spiritwear sales @ kindergarten & 1st grade open houses up $136.  Will also be @ Parent Teacher Nights.
  • Jeannines is going on now through Sept 26th.

  • Peace Pole Ceremony “This Little Light of Mine”  $113.60   APPROVED

Principal Report

  • Meet Your Teacher Nights,  IEP & Kara Fisette am Kindergarten (45 Min early) due to overlap of classroom, New Head Custodian Ms McQuinn, DPW help with sand for funnel ball area & fence area repairs & crushed stone near kindergarten exit for drainage assistance.
  • Opening went smoothly (494 population in school this year)
  • Safety evaluations with Fire & Police Departments underway – Fire drills and
    lockdown discussions/schedule.  Bus evacuations end of September…
  • Butterfly Garden cleaned up by Sterling Greenery
  • Flag Raising by 3rd graders…Performed with Mr. Bailey (scout master
    volunteer)
  • No longer have “everyday math.”  Now have Math Pacing Guides for K-5
  • Standard Report Cards computerized…Teacher Training underway
  • Race to the Top Funding Approved …Need to evaluate teachers as part of requirements
  • District Talk October 20th @ High School. 21st Century Skills 6pm (need 10 people per school to participate)
  • Expanding time on Science (Rep in each grade to support)
  • Discussion on Late Notification in regards to Bus Routes & Class Lists  (looking into improving both)
  • Dates to Change:   Peace Pole is now on release day October 12 & Halloween parade on the 31st of October and not Friday the 28th.

Classroom Enrichment:

  • Coming up Tribal Rhythm (“Strongest & Weakest”) Grades 2-4, Davis Farmland (Kinderg.), Native American Dan (Kinderg.), More
    communication to parents on when the programs are coming out.

Open Business:

  • Room Coordinators/Volunteer Meeting Friday September 23rd.   Spirit Day (1/mo), Survey to Parents on after school programs?  RADD KIDS program
    brochure?  Need new Garden Coordinator.  Laurie Pisconie needs thank you note.  Box Tops and flyers etc
